Kunle Olatunji (KTJ) was born on 31 August 1968 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He began his education in 1974 at Wesley College Practising School, Elekuro, Ibadan, then attended Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School and Ibadan Grammar School, earning his West African School Certificate "O" and "A" Level qualifications.

He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Geography and Planning from the University of Lagos in 1991, and later a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ibadan in 2008.

A Career Built in the Boardroom

Kunle built a distinguished corporate career across several of Nigeria's leading organizations, including Academy Press Plc, SystemSpecs Limited, Nigerian Wire and Cables Plc, and Coleman Wire and Cables. Along the way he became a seasoned professional in strategic planning, business development, and media consulting.

Today he is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of G-Merits Limited, Meridien Consulting Limited, and Brandmetrics Limited, and serves as Chairman of Femben Sports International Limited, a company headquartered in South Africa. This is the background of someone who has built and run real enterprises — who understands how organizations grow, what holds them back, and how to deliver results.

Public Service

Kunle has served at the heart of Oyo State governance. He was Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Abiola Ajimobi, and subsequently to Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing the Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The Game Changer

The saying that leaders are both born and made aptly captures the remarkable story and political journey of Kunle Olatunji. Born into the renowned Keji family of Ibadan — whose progenitor was a celebrated warrior and one of the founding fathers of the ancient city of Ibadanland — he has distinguished himself as a quiet strategist, a committed leader, and a passionate advocate for the service of humanity.

From an early age, he demonstrated leadership and a strong sense of responsibility: as a school prefect, a Lead Project Coordinator in his early career, Governor of the Class of 1984 at Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School, and later President of his MBA Class of 2008. Beyond academic and professional life, he has remained active in community development — serving as Pro-tem President of Premier Junior Chambers, Ibadan, and today a member of Omo Ibadan Kinni So, one of the fast-growing socio-cultural associations under the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

His political consciousness was shaped by his admiration for the late sages Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige, whose enduring philosophies of people-centered governance, social justice, and collective responsibility became the foundation of his political ideology.

His journey began with his support for the emergence of Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja — now the Olubadan of Ibadanland — during the 2003 general elections, then in a professional capacity as a media consultant rather than a partisan politician. His involvement deepened when he joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and subsequently the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), aligning with the progressive movement led by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

As a senior member of the influential "A-Team" led by Prince Towo Aderemi, he played strategic roles in media management, research, planning, and fundraising that contributed significantly to the growth of the progressive movement in Oyo State. A respected brand-management expert and communications strategist, he became a trusted figure within the progressive political family in Oyo State and beyond — serving as Media Assistant to the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi and, more recently, to Senator Yunus Akintunde of the Oyo Central Senatorial District.

Driven by conviction and a desire to pursue a broader vision for public service, he resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Action Democratic Party (ADP), where he has emerged as the party's gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election. Sound, intelligent, and deeply conversant with leadership and governance, he is determined to redefine the political narrative through his philosophy of collectivism — the belief that sustainable growth and national transformation are achieved through collective commitment, strategic collaboration, and harmonious coexistence among all stakeholders.

Why I aspire to lead.

A careful assessment of leadership and governance within the Nigerian political landscape reveals a deeply concerning reality: a widening trust deficit between the people and those entrusted with public office. Equally troubling is the apparent shortage of disciplined, committed, and visionary leaders — a situation that has created room for mediocrity, abuse of power, recklessness, and exploitative tendencies in governance.

This represents a significant departure from the ideals that characterized the early years of Nigeria's post-independence politics, when leadership was driven by vision, patriotism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to public service and the welfare of the people.

If this trend continues unchecked, the growing frustration of citizens in the face of ineffective leadership — leadership that often lacks empathy, competence, and the capacity to provide sustainable solutions to societal challenges — could further undermine public confidence in government and hinder national development.

While the future of Nigeria remains a matter of collective concern, I have chosen to contribute to the nation's transformation through active engagement at the sub-national level, particularly in Oyo State. My aspiration is driven by a sincere desire to work collaboratively with like-minded individuals, seasoned professionals, development experts, and stakeholders across various sectors to reposition Oyo State for excellence in leadership, governance, and socio-economic development.

I firmly believe that meaningful transformation can be achieved through the responsible exercise of political authority and the implementation of sound policy frameworks that promote economic growth, social inclusion, infrastructural development, and institutional efficiency. As Executive Governor of Oyo State, my vision is to pursue a clearly defined development agenda with measurable outcomes over a two-term period, laying a solid foundation for sustainable prosperity.

The successful realization of this vision in Oyo State will not only improve the lives of our people but also serve as a model for effective governance and a blueprint for the broader national rebirth that Nigerians earnestly desire. Through purposeful leadership, strategic planning, and collective commitment, we can build a state that stands as a beacon of progress and a catalyst for the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria.
